The mission of the Nigerian Women Bitcoiners (NWB) is to empower women with comprehensive, unfiltered knowledge about Bitcoin and its transformative potential. We strive to foster a vibrant, inclusive community that equips women with the tools, skills, and opportunities to thrive in the Bitcoin ecosystem. By providing education, certification, advocacy opportunities, and access to funding, NWB seeks to bridge gender gaps in financial technology, connect women to local and global Bitcoin networks, and drive economic empowerment through innovative, women-led initiatives.

Curriculum Overview

The NWB Bitcoin Education Program is designed to take participants from foundational knowledge to advanced application of Bitcoin concepts. It is divided into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, with a focus on education, practical skills, advocacy, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum emphasizes inclusivity, hands-on learning, and real-world application.

Curriculum Structure

Level 1: Bitcoin Basics (Beginner)

Duration: 4 weeks

Objective: Equip participants with foundational knowledge of Bitcoin and its relevance.

Modules:  

  1. Introduction to Bitcoin  
    • What is Bitcoin? History and origins (Satoshi Nakamoto, 2008 Whitepaper).  
    • Why Bitcoin matters: Financial inclusion, sovereignty, and empowerment.  
    • Bitcoin vs. traditional money (fiat currencies).
  2. How Bitcoin Works  
    • Blockchain basics: Decentralization, blocks, and transactions.  
    • Public and private keys: Understanding wallets and security.  
    • Mining and consensus: Proof of Work explained simply.
  3. Using Bitcoin  
    • Setting up a Bitcoin wallet (mobile, hardware, and software options).  
    • Buying, sending, and receiving Bitcoin (exchanges and P2P platforms).  
    • Everyday use cases for Bitcoin in Nigeria and beyond.
  4. Bitcoin Safety and Security  
    • Common scams and how to avoid them.  
    • Best practices for securing Bitcoin (e.g., backups, seed phrases).  
    • Privacy considerations in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Level 2: Bitcoin Intermediate Skills

Duration: 6 weeks

Objective: Build practical skills and deeper understanding for real-world application.

  1. Bitcoin Transactions In-Depth  
    • Transaction fees, confirmations, and the mempool.  
    • Exploring a block explorer (e.g., Blockchain.com, Mempool.space).  
    • Lightning Network basics: Scalability and fast payments.
  2. Bitcoin Economics  
    • Supply and demand: Bitcoin’s 21 million cap and halving events.  
    • Bitcoin as a store of value vs. medium of exchange.  
    • Economic opportunities for women in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
  3. Advocacy and Community Building  
    • Explaining Bitcoin to others: Simplifying complex concepts.  
    • Bitcoin’s impact on underserved communities (e.g., remittances).  
    • Role of women as Bitcoin advocates in Nigeria.
  4. Practical Projects  
    • Conduct a mock Bitcoin transaction (e.g., send BTC to a peer).  
    • Research and present a use case for Bitcoin in Nigeria.  
    • Join an NWB meet-up (virtual or physical) to network.

Level 3: Bitcoin Advanced Mastery

Duration: 8 weeks

Objective: Prepare participants for leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the Bitcoin space.

    • Bitcoin’s technical architecture (nodes, forks, upgrades like Taproot).  
    • Comparing Bitcoin to other cryptocurrencies (e.g., Ethereum, stablecoins).  
    • Regulatory landscape: Bitcoin laws in Nigeria and globally.
  2. Bitcoin Business and Innovation  
    • Starting a Bitcoin-based business: Ideas and planning.  
    • Case studies: Successful Bitcoin businesses led by women.  
    • Pitching a Bitcoin startup idea (e.g., to NWB funding panel).
  3. Global Bitcoin Ecosystem  
    • Connecting with international Bitcoin communities and opportunities.  
    • Open-source contributions: How to get involved in Bitcoin development.  
    • Attending or hosting Bitcoin conferences/meet-ups.
