Dr. Muhammad Jiya is currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Emerging Technologies
and Innovations (ET & I) at the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and Vice – Chair,
Information Exchange Working Group (IEWG) of Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence
Units (FIUs). He is currently Vice Chair in charge of IT Innovations and Enhancing of Data
Analytics Work Stream of Egmont Group IEWG. Prior to his current appointment at NFIU in
April 2024, he was Associate Director, Analysis and Compliance Directorate from August
2020 – April 2024. He served as NFIU’s Assistant Director and Head, Information &
Communication Technology Department from 2019 to August 2020.
Dr. Jiya holds a PhD Degree in Computer Science from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University,
Bauchi (ATBU), a Master of Technology (M. Tech) degree in Computer Science, and a
Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree in Mathematics with a Computer Science from
Federal University of Technology, Minna. He has attended several courses at home and
abroad in areas such as information communication technology, anti-money laundering
and counter-terrorism financing, and project management, among others.
