Valentine’s Day in Anambra state did not begin with roses or candlelight. It began in a hotel ballroom, filled with volunteers, chairs, banners, and the quiet excitement of people who believed they were building something bigger than themselves.
The event was held in Awka and sponsored by Life Missions. It was organized through the collaboration of Nigeria Women Bitcoiners and Bitcoin Anambra. For weeks, planning had been happening behind the scenes. We coordinated speakers, structured the program, mobilized attendees, and ensured every detail was in place. On the morning of the event, we all arrived early at the venue.
Before the doors opened, we gathered for a volunteer meeting. We went over the flow of the program, assigned final roles, and made last minute adjustments. There is something powerful about those moments before an event begins. The shared responsibility. The said prayers. The collective determination to make everything run smoothly
By the time the ballroom filled, about seventy people had taken their seats. The energy in the room was warm and curious. The program opened with an engaging host from Bitcoin Anambra who immediately set the tone for the day. The first speaker, Alan, began in a profound way. He spoke about the greatest love of all, the love of God. It grounded the room and reminded everyone that beyond technology and finance, God is over all.
He then transitioned into Bitcoin, not as hype but as impact. He shared stories from his travels, including his experiences in El Salvador where they live on the Bitcoin standard. He spoke about his motorbike racing community in El Salvador where the riders pay in Bitcoin.
He also spoke about Raya Mahboob and how she empowered 16,000 bankless women in Afghanistan by helping them use Bitcoin as a survival tool. His message was clear. Bitcoin is not just digital money. It is a tool that can change real lives.
After his session, we had a game segment. Laughter filled the room as attendees won merchandise including polos, stickers, wood carved “B” designs, caps, and banners. Education and enjoyment blended beautifully
Then it was my turn to speak. My presentation was titled “From Dependence to Choice: The Value of Bitcoin to Women.” As I stood before the audience with my slides, I spoke about a journey many women quietly understand. Many of us were taught how to earn money and carefully manage it. We were taught how to stretch it and sacrifice with it. But we were rarely taught how money works or how to truly own it.For me, Bitcoin was never about quick gains or excitement. It was about understanding money differently. It was about discovering a system built on transparency and individual ownership. I emphasized that empowerment begins with education. When women understand their financial options and begin to think long term, they move from fear to clarity.
When women get empowered through Bitcoin , the ripple effect goes beyond them. It strengthens families. It stabilizes households. It impacts communities. The audience was attentive and thoughtful. The questions that followed showed genuine curiosity. After the question and answer session, more merchandise was distributed and conversations continued around the hall.
Kester, the Project Manager at Bitcoin Anambra followed with a session on using Bitcoin as a savings tool. He spoke about inflation and how the value of our money continues to decline. He explained how Bitcoin shifted his own financial perspective and encouraged long term thinking as a way to protect value. His message was relatable and grounded in personal experience.
We closed with a raffle draw. Winners received sats directly into their wallets and walked away with merchandise as well. Refreshments were served. Group photographs were taken. There was joy in the room. It truly felt like a Valentine’s Day well spent. Yet the most beautiful part of the day happened quietly
New women joined Nigeria Women Bitcoiners with excitement. They asked questions and expressed interest in continuing their learning journey. Two women volunteers actively participated in ensuring the event was successful, stepping forward confidently and contributing their time and effort. This is the heart of Nigeria Women Bitcoiners. Beyond events and presentations, our mission remains clear. We are committed to women empowerment and advocacy through Bitcoin. We continue spreading the message of Bitcoin to women both virtually and in person. We create safe spaces for learning, asking questions, and building confidence.
In that ballroom in Awka, something shifted. It was more than an event. It was evidence that women are curious, capable, and ready to participate in shaping the future of money. From dependence to choice. From fear to clarity. From isolation to community. And this is only the beginning
